5 Jobs That Will Relax You

It’s a smart career move to choose a job that doesn’t stress you out and make your blood pressure soar. Many workplaces are hotbeds of stress. Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to go to work in a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere.

Massage Therapist

Massage therapists work in the calm environment of a salon or spa. The lighting is low, soothing sounds can be heard, and fragrant oils are used for the massage. In this setting, clients do not want to talk, and they may even fall asleep, so you have time to think your own thoughts.

For a job like this, you will usually need a Licensed Massage Practitioner Certificate. If you want to work in medical practice, you may need additional credentials.

Yoga Instructor

A yoga studio environment tends to be tranquil, with soothing music playing and peaceful décor. You are likely to spend your day meditating and stretching. Some yogis even do their work outdoors in nature or go to someone’s home.

To become a yoga instructor, you need some kind of certification from a recognized organization. If you teach specific classes or techniques, you may need additional licensing.

Sleep Technician (Polysomnographic technologist)

Your job involves monitoring clients when they come in for sleep studies. You will take their vital signs and other measurements, working under the guidance of a medical director or physician. You will be working in a soothing environment, designed to enable clients to fall asleep with difficulty.

To become a sleep technician, you must graduate from a diagnostic medical training program. You will need an entry-level or senior level certificate from the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists. Many sleep technicians have other licenses too, such as a certified medical assistant.

Librarian

A library is a peaceful space, free of distraction. It is stereotypically regarded as one of the quietest places to work.

For most positions, you will need a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science. If you want to work in a specialized position, such as a law firm or an elementary school, you may need further qualifications, such as some legal expertise or a teacher’s certificate. Computer skills are essential.

Acupuncturist

The office of an acupuncturist is often like a spa, with relaxing music and a calm environment. Patients need to be relaxed if you’re going to insert thin needles into their skin.

You need to graduate from an accredited program to be an acupuncturist. You will need to pass exams with a national certification organization. In many states, you will have to have to be certified as a doctor of acupuncture or have a special acupuncture license.

The jobs above are just a few you could consider in your quest for a less stressful job.  You could also think about a job as a gardener, seamstress, jeweler or Tai Chi Instructor.  These less stressful jobs don’t always pay as well as very high-stress jobs, but the job satisfaction and lack of stress often more than make up for this.
