What to double check in the contract before signing

  1. Type of employment: we’re not talking about finding fatal errors in the contract, or duties different from those that you were hired to do. The contract must specify exactly what you will be doing and what your responsibilities will be. This is fundamental to any potential legal dispute as well.  As they say: “you never know”.
  2. Salary: what you agreed in person must be written in the contract. Remember that any benefits or bonuses that you may receive during the year must also be included.
  3. Work hours: you probably agreed on it during the interview It’s a good idea to check that the working hours are correct and are not more than you thought.
  4. Holidays and sick leave: you are given a minimum number of vacation days per year. This should be clearly stated in the contract. It should also indicate the company’s mandatory closures, or days on which nobody works.
  5. Restrictive clauses: check that the contract indicates the notice period in the event of dismissal. When you get hired you clearly aren’t thinking about the end of the professional relationship. But you may need it if you receive a better job offer. So it’s good to know what can happen.

Once you’ve signed the contract you must stay focused and give the job your best so you ace the trial period. Your efforts will be rewarded.
