The Top 5 Cities for Tech Workers

Tech jobs are growing at a much faster rate than many other jobs. There are nearly six million highly skilled tech workers in the U.S. and Canada alone. Good tech jobs are available wherever you look, but certain cities top the list.

The top tech city, according to a 2018 analysis by a real estate and investment firm, CBRE, is San Francisco Bay area. Thirteen metrics were used to measure the vitality, depth, and attractiveness of each market. Some factors taken into consideration were available tech jobs, growth momentum, tech workers with degrees and average apartment rentals.

The analysis found that notable accelerations in tech talent growth are occurring in many markets, with obvious growth in Los Angeles, Ottowa, Madison, and Wisconsin.

Another interesting finding was in the area of talent supply and demand. Washington D.C. and Boston, for example, produce more tech talent than the demand. This means a brain loss. The San Francisco Bay Area, Toronto, and Charlotte create more tech jobs than tech talent which creates a brain gain.

San Francisco and Seattle scored the highest in the quality of software engineers employed and their compensation costs.
