Proof of your previous experience working with money is very useful here. For example if you’ve worked in restaurants, bars or any other similar role, be sure to bring it up in the interview.

Here are some interview questions you may face during your cashier job interview:

1. Why do you want this job?
Here is a question you will no doubt get asked in almost every job interview for almost all roles. Your employer wants to know that you are passionate about your work and the reasons why you want them to hire you. For cashier roles it is always good to mention interaction with people, as well as enjoying working in customer care related roles.

2. This job can be repetitive, how would you stay motivated?
This can be a tricky question to answer. Some cashier jobs can be repetitive, however, it is important that you can prove to a potential employer that this is not an issue. You could mention that you enjoy the routine of the job, and stress that maintaining a high standard of work is important to you. It’s also worth maybe mentioning that whilst some people may see the role as repetitive, for you, dealing with different customers throughout the day is something you enjoy.

3. Give an example of a time when you solved a problem at work
This is a common interview question, so be prepared for it. Think back to all of your previous roles and try and list a few examples where you have come up against an issue, but figured out how to best solve it yourself. It’s that word again, but initiative really is key!
