Corporate culture can get annoying and unbearable. Job seekers and first-time employees have a particular set of assumptions in their heads before getting a job. Knowing how to delight your coworkers is a way to a healthy work-life balance.

There are many ways people can increase happiness in the workplace. Being proactive, transparent and connecting with coworkers on a deeper level.

Be proactive

Be proactive is the number one habit in the world famous self-help book “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen R. Covey.

Life can get tough, but it is not a random act. The way you feel today is a sum of your decisions made throughout the years.

Be proactive

“By leadership, I mean taking complete responsibility for an organisation’s well-being and growth and changing it for the better. Real leadership is not about prestige, power or status. It is about responsibility.” – Robert Joss

Being proactive means taking full responsibility for your life at home and work. Instead of whining, propose solutions and adopt proactive language – I can, I will, I prefer, etc.

Think win-win

Nowadays people can get harsh trying to achieve their goals. Don’t become the selfish one ignoring the surrounding world. There are always solutions to come up with a win-win scenario to benefit both parties.

Let go of the scarcity mindset; we live in the richest age in human history. We live in abundance; we have enough of everything for everyone. Try to think in abundance and you will see how productive your life will become.

Think win-win

Win-win is not a quick fix. It’s a philosophy of living. Instead of thinking about short-term gains, be true to your values and think long-term. These simple ideas will help you to come up with win-win solutions in your workplace.

Under-promise and over-deliver

Becoming the promisor is easy. You want to please your boss and coworkers. You pick unrealistic goals with even more unrealistic deadlines. This way you put yourself in a dangerous position. By promising big things you fail by default.

Become more aware of the urge to please people just because you want to appear more likeable. Promise something you can comfortably do and pick a deadline that would allow you to fix unexpected errors. It sounds like a simple plan, but most people don’t even think about it.

Be trasparent

Be transparent

Transparency breeds trust, claims Joel Gascoigne, the co-founder and CEO at Buffer.

“Trust is the foundation of real teamwork. And so the first dysfunction is a failure on the part of team members to understand and open up to one another. And if that sounds touchy-feely, let me explain, because there is nothing soft about it. It is an absolutely critical part of building a team. In fact, it’s probably the most critical.” – Patrick Lencioni

Being transparent and proactive allows you to overcome all the arising challenges that could develop into severe problems inside the company.

Think about it, being transparent gives you freedom to be wrong, to be human. It allows you fix your mistakes before it’s too late. You don’t have to hide anything, lie or try to trick others.

By being transparent, you expect the same from others. Once you get the honest feedback, you’ll be able to evolve much faster rather than being blinded by false assumptions.
