Why you should keep on with your job search over the holidaysHolidays are the best time to find a new job and reports that 69 percent of recruiters place as many, or even more, candidates in December as in any other month.
Come December, many of us are ready for a much-needed break. With many businesses closed over the holidays and lots of people out of office, you may wonder if searching for a new job during the Christmas season is worth the time and effort. We say it is. And others agree. In fact, Fortune Magazine says that the holidays are the best time to find a new job and reports that 69 percent of recruiters place as many, or even more, candidates in December as in any other month.
Here are four reasons why you should take advantage of this period to accelerate your job search – and maybe land a new job for the new year!
- Hiring doesn’t stop in December – A quick search on Jobrapido will show you that there are many positions waiting to be filled – and they’re not going away for Christmas. In fact, many roles must be filled before the new year (more on that below), making them a priority.
- Company budgets – The Huffington Post reports that in many organizations, budget dollars that aren’t used before the end of the fiscal year (often December 31) are not available for the new fiscal year. So, many recruiters are feeling the pressure to fill these roles before the budget disappears in the next year.
- Less competition – Many people drop out of the job search process to focus on the many tasks that come along with the holidays, making the talent pool smaller during this period. Less competition makes it easier to stand out. Learn how to get your resume past AI software and into the hands of a recruiter.
- Prime time for temp jobs – Many companies have seasonal hiring spikes over the holidays. Customer call centres, warehouse and distribution centres, retail outlets, hotels and restaurants are just a few of the areas that require more hands on deck during the holidays. And who knows? A temporary position might just turn into a long-term one. Check out temporary positions on Jobrapido.
