Event organiser: how to get involved in this new profession and turn it into a profitable and satisfying job.

At a time when creating your own job opportunities is on the agenda, an increasingly popular option is to become an event planner. The main responsibility of an event organiser is to provide entertainment for others with cultural events or performance. This job is so rewarding! But how can you become an event planner? Here’s some useful tips!

How to Become an Event Planner

There are no specific courses to do this job. However, it’s useful to follow a training in marketing, communications and finance.

But for an event planner, what matters most is experience. You should have plenty of experience in the sector. You’ll need to research a specific kind of event and become a real expert in that field; and you’ll also need to be able to handle the whole range of possible problems that might (and will) occur. Some knowledge of marketing and finance is also essential, to ensure you get the most out of your available budget. As well as experience, you’ll need this sort of expertise.

You could start by organising an event at your school or university. Or you could try helping someone who has done this job for a while to learn more about it and put yourself to the test. Humility is always a very important asset.

This area of work is also constantly being updated. You may not know all the latest advances in the sector, so you always need to be on the lookout for any new developments.

It may seem obvious, but an important thing for an event planner is the ability to organise. If you are a real slob, you have to change your lifestyle, because if you’re organising an event, everything has to be completely under your control. This includes documents, so you need to ensure that no piece of paper ever goes astray.
