Ways to Delight Your Coworkers And Become The Spirit of the Company – Part 2
Knowing how to delight your coworkers is a way to a healthy work-life balance. Part 2Most people are listening with an intention to reply. These responses can be wildly wrong as there’s not enough of context to provide valuable input.
Listen with an intention to understand
First, listen and try to understand. Sympathise and don’t interrupt the speaker with unnecessary questions or comments.
Second, practice patience. Listening with patience takes a lot of effort. Investing time to understand will not only open your ears but your heart. You’ll be able to connect with your coworkers on a deeper emotional level.
Show that you care
Whether it’s work or your personal relationships, you’re still dealing with people.
It’s easy to forget that your coworkers are not just some machines working together at the same place. They have lives, wishes, and worries. Get to know them and show that you care. If you see they’re sad, bring them a cup of coffee. If you see they’re late, help by assisting them with simple tasks. Tell them how much you like their new haircut.
These little things don’t cost you a fortune, but friendships you’ll make at work will make you happier.
Connect
Become genuinely interested in other people. Dale Carnegie in his classic book “How to Win Friends & Influence People” shared stories how people got what they wanted by becoming interested in others.
Simply asking questions like “What fires you up?”, “If the money wasn’t an object what would you do in life?”, “What are the things you want to do before you die?” will open up interesting conversations and will help you understand your coworkers outside the formal setting.
Once you get to know your coworkers you can understand, connect and collaborate more efficiently.
Being a rock star at work is not a mission impossible. Just be enthusiastic and curious about the people you work with. Treat people with respect, be honest and emphatic.
These tips may sound like simple ones but cultivated on a daily basis can make a significant impact in your work and life.
